Because everyone comes to this course with differing levels of experience, evaluation will be holistic to take into account individual improvement. You will meet with me at midterm for a personal portfolio review and cumulative midterm evaluation that will be based on the exercises and sketchbook. Three technical quizzes and a final exam will be given in class, for which make-ups will only be given for documentable cause. The major group project will receive a point score based on the roles your defined in your proposal. You can earn up to 100 points over the course of the semester; the final grading scale is based on a 10-point increment scale (A=90, B=80, etc.). The breakdown of the points is as follows:
Final Project/Critique: 20
Reading Responses: 20
Final Project Development: 15
Midterm portfolio review: 15
Quizzes: 15
Participation: 10
Sketchbook: 5
Extra credit opportunities will be available for select special events taking place outside of class. Up to 5 points of extra credit will be awarded for attending and writing a 2 page, double-spaced summary and response to any of the events associated with the Tactics & Critics lecture series:
January 26-Nato Thompson, Assistant Curator at the Massachusetts Museum
of Contemporary Art
February 16-Praba Pilar, independent media and performance artist
March 7-Trevor Paglen, cultural geographer and interdisciplinary artist
Other extra credit opportunities may come up from time to time during the semester. If you have questions about your performance in class at any time, please come to my office hours or send me an email.
